Travelling first class from Rome through Tuscany is... pretty dull actually.

Unfortunately there weren’t any exciting vistas, and first class was not that glamorous.

There was a refreshments trolley but that was much pretty much the highlight.  I recommend you bring some snacks, a good book and a good friend.

At an hour and a half it’s pretty good value and on the plus side the toilets were decent.

My friend Orla booked the tickets, but there is a handy English language section of the Trenitalia website where you can book tickets - if you can understand the translations!

Roma Termini train station is also worth a mention as it’s huge - it has a separate arrival area for trains to and from the airport so allow yourself plenty of time to change trains.  You might also want to leave yourself some time to shop as it’s basically a shopping centre (I love the Sisley shop!)

The view from the train - a pretty dull ride I’m afraid

€17 in first class for both of us (approx. £7.50 each) (it was buy one get one free if you travelled on a Saturday!) for the train from Roma Termini to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme:
Weekend break April 2011

Cheapest return price €9 (approx. £8) as at January 2012
