Hands on, reiki on.

This is the basic principle of reiki.  Aside from the candles and relaxing music and even the positions of the hands, it is based on the natural healing power of touch.  You can either enjoy reiki as a treatment at many spas or you can use it on yourself and then others.

I started practicing reiki just over 5 years ago

and it has made a huge difference to me.

In working to heal mind, body and spirit there are so many tools, but there are times when some therapies may just feel a little too hard.  It is then that you can put your hands on, just breathe in and out and let the reiki do the rest.  (It’s also a great excuse to lie down in the middle of the afternoon, and if you end up falling asleep that’s just fine.)

Reiki has no religious affiliation.

Like yoga or meditation you can practise it whatever your beliefs may be.

It is a treatment that balances energy in the body,

based on an understanding of the seven chakras or energy centres.

Reiki is a clothed treatment,

and it is often recommended that you wear natural fibres for comfort and maximum effect.  A therapist places their hands on your body and rests them there, drawing energy to where it is needed, or allowing excess energy to disperse.

It is believed that everyone has this innate reiki ability, it just needs attunement from a reiki master, and daily practice.

You can try it by placing your hands on your body, or another person (and yes, you can treat children and animals.)

A reiki treatment normally takes around one hour

and you may be asked to commit to a minimum of three treatments initially.

There is no manipulation or physical massage, just peace and usually some relaxing music.

I have experienced both miracles and nothing at all.

I would highly recommend a Level 1 course so you can practice this on yourself and your loved ones.  I’ve included a link to my reiki teacher’s page (right), so you can find out more - or of course you can email me at and I’ll be happy to tell you more about my personal experiences.
